Doctoral Student for Project 15: Emanuele Marchetti

Doctoral Student: Emanuele Marchetti, DESY

Emanuele is based at DESY, where the theory and simulation team of the plasma acceleration group leads the development of HiPACE++, an open-source, GPU-capable quasi-static particle-in-cell code.

Within the framework of beam-driven plasma acceleration, he will implement new capabilities in the code, and use them to study both fundamental mechanisms and experimentally relevant questions.

The main research topics include ionization processes and their long-term effects on the plasma, particularly in the context of higher operating frequencies in plasma accelerators, as well as beam dynamics. The latter seeks to investigate ways to push the limits of beam stability in the AWAKE experiment at CERN.
